Pre/post-booking inspection

Prior to your booking, you will be presented with a rental inspection form, which you can find on your itinerary. You must either bring a printed copy of the form to your booking or use the digital version of the form available in the Boatsetter Owners app.

To avoid $1,000 in liability on damages claims, it is mandatory to complete the pre-/post-booking inspection form and take accompanying photos. In the case of damages, please email the form and applicable photos to contact@boatsetter.com.

The inspection form is required for both legal and insurance reasons. Boatsetter boat rentals are covered by GEICO BoatUS world-class insurance, but this coverage requires a fully and accurately completed inspection form. Coast Guard regulations also require that a check out orientation takes place. If there are damages or losses incurred during the booking, please report the claim to GEICO BoatUS by calling 1-877-970-BOAT (2628), and ask the Boatsetter support crew to put a hold on the renter's security deposit.

How to fill out the pre/post-booking inspection form

Be sure you or the designated agent complete this form with the renter before the boat departs and after the conclusion of your booking. To correctly fill out a rental inspection form:

  • Do a pre-rental walk-around and take photos.
    • Review and note on the form the fuel level, condition of equipment and of the boat to make sure everything is operational.
    • Be sure to note any pre-existing damage.
    • Sign the pre-rental inspection form with the renter.
  • Do a post-rental walk around and take photos.
    • Repeat the process from the start of the booking, noting any new damages if applicable and any charges.
    • Sign the post-rental inspection form with the renter.

You or the designated agent will keep a copy of the signed rental inspection form. In the event that you need to report a damage claim, you will be required to submit the rental inspection form.

Can someone else handle the inspection process for me?

A great way to streamline the inspection process is to designate an agent to represent you at booking start and completion; this could be a captain, neighbor, or relative. The inspection form asks for the “Owner / Agent” name and signature, which they fill out on your behalf.
