The items below contribute to the total cost of a booking. Fees may vary based on the vessel selected, trip duration, and insurance policy. All items charged directly through Boatsetter are shown at checkout before you submit payment.

Some items, such as docking fees and gratuity, may be charged/collected by the owner/captain in person. This is typically included in the boat’s listing description but we always encourage you to confirm additional fees with owners before booking.

## **Boat price**

This is the package price the owner sets for a booking.

## **Captain fee**

All bookings with a [captain](https://support.boatsetter.com/en_us/how-to-find-captains-S1kGUyj2s) include a captain fee at checkout unless specified otherwise (in which case the captain may request to be paid at the dock). This fee is reflected in your price breakdown.

## **Renter service fee**

A service fee is charged on each booking. The service fee is applied to the price before any coupons or credits are applied. This fee helps Boatsetter provide a safe and secure booking experience, as well as dedicated customer support throughout your journey.

## **Add-On service fee**

If [add-on services](https://support.boatsetter.com/hc/en-us/articles/8468700634637-Add-ons) are applied to the booking during checkout, like a tube rental or snorkeling gear, Boatsetter charges a 10% add-on service fee.

## **Renter insurance fee**

This fee helps cover insurance costs and is determined by the vessel specifications and trip duration.

## **Taxes**

Some U.S. states require Boatsetter to collect a sales tax for rentals that take place in those states. Currently, Boatsetter collects sales tax in the following states: Florida, Washington, and Texas.

## **Security deposit**

A [security deposit](https://support.boatsetter.com/hc/en-us/articles/205348914-Security-deposit) is held on your card to cover incidental damage, charges, and/or lost items. The temporary hold is placed on the primary card 48 hours prior to the booking and released 48 hours after the trip, if no damage is reported. It may take 10+ business days for your statement to reflect the deposit release.

## **Fuel**

The owner’s fuel policy will appear on the listing and during the check-out process. If not included in the cost of the rental, owners may charge you separately for the fuel used during your booking.

If fuel is not included, the owner may charge you after the booking concludes via the [fuel reimbursement](https://support.boatsetter.com/en_us/fuel-reimbursement-Hywm8yinj) form on the website. They may also request a flat fee or reimbursement payment in person, instead of requesting a fuel reimbursement through Boatsetter. Fuel reimbursement paid outside the platform will be solely managed between you and the owner. If a fuel reimbursement is requested, you will be notified via email of the amount and sent a picture of the receipt. We will automatically charge the card on file.
