All renters must have a [verified](https://support.boatsetter.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003661906-Account-verification) Boatsetter account in order to message an owner or book a vessel. Some renters may require additional [identity verification](https://support.boatsetter.com/en_us/renter-identity-verification-rkmbLyi2s).

In addition, owners can set their own qualifications to verify a renter’s boating experience. We ask that you outline any required licenses or boat operating experience in your listing description and during your conversations with the renter. You may also request a sea trial with the renter to ensure both parties are comfortable. You have full control over who books your vessel.

As an owner, it is your responsibility to ensure that the renter has the [correct licenses](https://support.boatsetter.com/en_us/requirements-to-rent-a-boat-HkXZL1inj) to operate your vessel. If the renter books your vessel and they do not have the correct qualifications, they must provide the proper licensing and/or qualifications before boarding the vessel.

If the renter lies about their qualifications and is found not to have the correct licenses at the start of the booking, the owner will be due their payout, and the renter will not receive a refund. This outcome will be decided by the Boatsetter Support Team.
