If a booking is canceled by the renter, your cancellation policy is effective immediately. The total refund and payout amount depend on which of the three cancellation policies you set (Flexible, Moderate, or Strict). Owner cancellations are 100% refundable to the renter.

## **Flexible**

* 100% payout for cancellations made within 24 hours of the booking start time.

## **Moderate**

* 100% payout for cancellations made within 2 days of the booking start time.
* 50% payout for cancellations made between 3-5 days before the booking start time.

## **Strict**

* 100% payout for cancellations made within 14 days of the booking start time.
* 50% payout for cancellations made between 15-30 days before the booking start time.

**Please note: Canceled bookings will** **_never_** **payout automatically.** If you are due a payout from a renter cancellation, please contact us via our [Contact Form](https://boatsetter.kustomer.help/contact/contact-us-rybdP8n5i).

In the event of [extenuating circumstances](https://support.boatsetter.com/hc/en-us/articles/203439494-Cancellations-due-to-extenuating-circumstances), renters may be entitled to a 100% refund.

You can edit your cancellation policy by navigating to your **Owner Dashboard** **> My** **boats > Edit Listing > Boat details > Scroll down to “Cancellation policy” > Edit**. Changes made to the cancellation policy will not apply to your [Approved](https://support.boatsetter.com/en_us/booking-states-rJrWUJs3o) bookings.

## **Trip modifications**

If the date of the booking is edited, the cancellation policy carries over to the new start date. However, if the edit took place during a cancellation fee period, the original policy will apply to the rescheduled date in the event of a canceled booking.

This can be confusing, so we’ve put together a few scenarios below using Boatsetter's moderate cancellation policy as an example.

* On September 4, a renter reschedules a booking for September 10 (moderate cancellation policy) to October 10. Because this is more than five days in advance, they can cancel the rescheduled booking before the five-day moderate cancellation window activates again.
* On September 7, a renter reschedules a booking for September 10 (moderate cancellation policy) to October 10. Because this is within 3-5 days before the booking start time, the renter will only be eligible for a maximum 50% refund should they cancel the rescheduled booking before the new booking date.
* The morning of September 10, a renter reschedules an afternoon booking on September 10 (moderate cancellation policy) to October 10. Because this is within 2 days of the booking start time, the renter will not be eligible for a refund should they cancel the rescheduled booking before the new booking date.
